Merchant Land secures planning for London residential scheme

Developer Merchant Land has secured planning permission for a new residential scheme at Windmill Lane, Hounslow, providing 74 new apartments across two six and seven-storey buildings.

The project will see the complete transformation of an underused site to create the new scheme, providing a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, including 15 affordable homes. The apartments will each have outdoor space, whether a balcony, private garden, or a roof terrace.

Residents will also benefit from a range of shared amenity spaces and extensive landscaping taking inspiration from English country gardens, with new trees, pathways, raised planters and stone benches. There will also be designated spaces for relaxation, production gardening and play, helping to build a community and create a thriving multi-generational scheme for everyone to enjoy.

Since planning was first submitted in 2018, Merchant Land has worked closely with the community and London Borough of Hounslow, appointing an award-winning design team to create a scheme that is sympathetic to its neighbours while delivering much-needed new homes.

Designed to create a ‘healthy street’, the scheme will encourage residents to embrace cycling, walking, or car-sharing alongside a limited number of car parking spaces within a central courtyard.

Katherine McCullough, Managing Director of Merchant Land, said: “We’re thrilled to have secured planning consent for a new community at Windmill Lane – we have worked with a fantastic team who have helped us to create a new development that will not only deliver much-needed new homes within Hounslow, including 15 affordable properties, but which is sympathetic to its surroundings.

“Placemaking has also been a key consideration when designing this scheme – providing a range of shared amenities and new greenspace, it has all the ingredients to create a thriving new community.”

UKREiiF 2024 – worthwhile investment or expensive talking shop?

As an Independent PR and marketing consultant, it's important that time out of the office for any networking and learning is a good investment - and, let's face it, UKREiiF is pretty costly to attend. But given the growth of the event in recent years, and positive feedback from clients and contacts, I bit the bullet and decided to join what felt like the entirety of the UK's real estate industry and head to Leeds.
